Cervical Screening: Smear Tests
Cervical screening, which used to be called smear test, is a test to check the health of the cervix and help prevent cervical cancer. It's offered to women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64.
If you are aged over 24 and have never had a smear test, or if it has been more than 3 to 5 years since your last screening, you should arrange an appointment with our Practice Nurse. You should not have the test while you are having a period or in the 4 days before or after your period as this can affect the sample; it is best to be mid-cycle, which is 7 – 10 days after the first day of your last period.
Counselling
Paul works at Jericho Health Centre two days a week, currently on Wednesday and Friday. He also sees people by referral from Talking Space Plus.
If you would like to see him it may be helpful to first discuss this with your GP
Counselling at the surgery normally consists of six sessions, spaced either weekly or fortnightly. Sessions last fifty minutes.
Counselling provides a confidential place within which to explore thoughts and feelings about oneself and relationships with others. It can help one make links between past experiences and current difficulties and to change patterns of behaviour. A counsellor does not normally give advice or take away difficult feelings. The aim is to help people gain understanding and confidence to face problems honestly and think about how to find a way forward.

Investigations
The Practice has an ECG (echocardiogram) machine – if your Doctor wants you to have an ECG then please book an appointment with the Practice Nurse or Healthcare Assistant.
Please allow at least five working days for the results of investigations such as blood tests and urine or stool analysis to come back to us. We ask that patients telephone the surgery for the results. If possible please telephone after 2pm.
If there is an abnormal result we will get in touch with you to inform you and to start any necessary treatment. It is therefore important to make sure we have your up to date contact details: please contact us to inform us of any changes.
