Urgent appointments for today

The Duty Doctor is able to deal with patients on the day who have urgent medical matters when there are no routine appointments available.

If you require this service, please phone reception who will take a message for the Duty Doctor including a contact number (you must be able to receive a call from the doctor) and a brief description of the medical problem so that the doctor can safely triage the calls.

How to book

Routine Appointment

Appointments typically last 10 minutes, with double appointments available for complex issues.

Some matters can be handled via phone consultation, which should be booked in advance if you prefer a specific doctor. Urgent calls will be addressed by the duty doctor.

Please provide a contact number and a brief reason for the call. While we can't guarantee a callback time, we’ll try to accommodate your preferred timeframe.

Sickness Certificates (Fit Notes)

You must give your employer a doctor’s ‘fit note’ (sometimes called a ‘sick note’) if you’ve been ill for more than 7 days in a row and have taken sick leave. This includes non-working days, such as weekends and bank holidays. If we are unaware of the illness, then we may ask you to book an appointment with a GP first.

Home Visits

Home visits are for emergencies or for those who are housebound. We cannot visit those who are well enough to attend or can be brought to the surgery.

When requesting a visit, please give the receptionist a brief description of the problem and make the request as early as possible in the day.

The practice frequently this use a home visiting service consisting of specialist paramedics who carry out emergency home visits.

Change or Cancel an Appointment

Please give us as much notice as possible so we can offer your appointment to someone else.

Please keep your phone number up to date and when booking an appointment indicate the preferred number for the practice to call. Please make sure you are available for your telephone appointment. In general, due to appointment demand the clinician will not be able to attempt calling more than twice.

Out of Hours

Enhanced Access

We offer some appointments each week out of normal practice hours.

These can be booked the same as any routine appointment.

Life Threatening

Call 999 or go to A&E now if:

  • you or someone you know needs immediate help
  • you have seriously harmed yourself – for example, by taking a drug overdose

A mental health emergency should be taken as seriously as a medical emergency.

  • You have an urgent medical issue requiring on the day attention
